Autism Coaching for Parents
35
I am the care taker to two wonderful young adults on the autism spectrum, my husband also is on the spectrum, so I am the odd one out in my family! One of these young adults is my little brother, who has PDD, and the other is our daughter who is 16 and has Asperger's. I have an undergraduate degree in Human Development, and went on to study Human Development at the master's level with a thesis that focused on life style interventions for young people with autism. However, I grew increasingly uncomfortable with the academic approach to autism , and left school to focus on dietary, emotional, and energetically supportive therapies.
My coaching services zero in on ways to make life a JOY for the autistic child and the parents. I help you create a lifestyle plan with three main branches: Nutrition and Health, Meaningful Relationships, and Stretching Horizons.
Nutrition and Health: Many people with autism suffer from nutrient malabsorbtion and gut health issues. I can share some protocols that have helped other families to support the health and vitality of their autistic loved one. 90% of neurotransmitters are made in the gut! So there is a direct link between gut health and how we feel.
Meaningful Relationships: Everyone needs connection. This is true even if we are non verbal, or struggle with social interaction. Parents need positive connection with their children, and the children need positive connection with family and peers. Because the needs autistic people can be confusing ( and even distressing), for nuerotypical parents, we need to learn their language of love! Melt downs don't just happen in a bubble!
Stretching Horizons: I am a big believer in pushing people to go beyond where we think they can be. My two autistic kids travel the world! Many people have told me that they have never taken their autistic or disabled child on a vacation. People with autism have MASSIVE potential to grow and achieve. I believe in never losing sight of that.
