I am a certified birth doula with nearly a decade of experience supporting birthing women in hospitals, birth centers, and at home; through unmedicated births, epidurals, and cesareans. I especially love the education aspect of doula work - the part that happens before labor even begins - and enjoy walking couples through the many choices available to them.
During your pregnancy I will meet with you 2-3 times for approximately 90 minutes at each meeting. During those times I will listen to your desires for your birth, and walk you through a comprehensive list of birth-relates procedures to make sure you understand your options and can make informed decisions about your care. I will provide examples of birth preferences that are easy for nurses and doctors to read through, as well as a list of hospital intake questions to ease your transition if you choose to birth in hospital. At our final prenatal meeting I will provide a “practice guide” to labor, walking with you through your home and demonstrating comfort options for positioning, massage, and aromatherapy.
Two weeks prior to your estimates due date, I will go “on call” for you. This means that my phone never leaves my side, I don’t go out of town, and if you call me (at any hour!) I will be with you within 2 hours (usually much sooner). I will stay with you throughout your labor, providing suggestions, emotional and physical support, and a comforting and stable presence.
When your baby is born, I will help you establish breastfeeding (if desired) and stay until you are comfortable and ready for me to leave you to enjoy your newly expanded family!
3-5 days after your birth, I will come to your home for a postpartum visit, coo over your beautiful baby, assist with breastfeeding, and offer suggestions/education for swaddling, baby wearing, co-sleeping, etc. as you desire.
Every birthing woman deserves consistent support educationally, emotionally, and physically, throughout her pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I would love to walk with you on your birthing journey!
