How to Work in in BC film
30
Want to work in the Vancouver film industry? Curious about props, set dec, art dept? Not sure what you need to get started? Want to learn the basics of how a film set works? Considering taking an expensive course, but not sure if its worth it, or what to expect?
I have been working in the Vancouver film industry for 3 years. I work in props department and set decoration as well as some other positions and I have also worked as an actress and been through the auditioning process. I have worked on small budget films, big budget films, TV shows, commercials and documentaries. My partner also works as a grip, electric, dolly grip and cam op. I have a thorough understanding of the different departments and can give advice to help you get started working in film. I am a full union member with ACFC West and IASTSE 891. I can teach you the basics from set etiquette and the chain of command, to getting into the union, negotiating rates, building your kit etc. Although a lot of this information will be relevant to the film industry in other cities it mostly pertains to Vancouver, because I can tell you where to go locally to buy supplies, take courses, rent gear etc. Got questions about getting started in BC film... ask away!
