Question on Free Will

I am pondering this subject and would love your responses-
I was talking recently to someone and we agreed that everything in the universe from the smallest cell to a human has a will.
I was wondering if you guys can comment on some of these questions:
What differentiates the will of a human from the will of say an animal?
Does society block the will of the human? Does it help that will? What are some situations that in your life you find society influencing what you deem your independent will (or desires)? did you find those influences positive or negative?
One of my arguments that I said differentiated humans from animals was their ability to think, or process things through words or ideas, but do you think that animals can think also?
How important are words or ideas in shaping the will (or what you desire)? Do you think language can block or help with the expression of will.
Wow- I guess these are all the questions I can think of right now , but any thoughts on this subject are welcome! If you can think of good questions too on this subject feel free to email them to me, or to answer them, and I will try to add them to the description.
